The Scottish Thistles and Welsh Dragons Join the QPL for 2018

The Quidditch Premier League are delighted to announce the launch of our two new teams for the 2018 season! The first national teams of Scotland and Wales, the Scottish Thistles and the Welsh Dragons, are an exciting arrival for UK players outside of England, and will be sure to expand the sport in their respective countries.

The Scottish Thistles will be entering the Northern Division to join the Northern Watch, West Midlands Revolution, East Midlands Archers and the Yorkshire Roses. The Welsh Dragons will be entering the Southern division, joining the London Monarchs, Eastern Mermaids, Southeast Knights and the Southwest Broadside.

The teams will be open to players residing in Scotland and Wales for 30 days between June 2018 and August 2018, as with the other QPL teams. However, since they are national teams, they will also be open to those of Scottish or Welsh birth, which is sure to bring a strong sense of national pride to the teams.

Try-outs will be taking place in early 2018, and are open to players of any ability, with the 2018 managers for the teams to be announced beforehand. Manager applications for the 2018 season will be opened shortly.

‘This is fantastic news’, said Jack Lennard, the League’s Director. ‘We've always had the goal of giving Scottish and Welsh players a platform to represent their nations within the QPL; now, after just one season, we've accomplished that. I really hope the new teams have the national support they deserve, from players, fans, and even sponsors - it would be fantastic to see local Welsh and Scottish businesses back their QPL teams!’

We’re expecting some friendly rivalry between the Thistles and the Dragons. Which team will conquer the other one? Will either knock the West Midlands Revolution down from the top? We can’t wait for the summer to start so we can find out!
