Covid-19 Update: 2020 Season Will Not Take Place

The Quidditch Premier League regrets to announce that the 2020 season will not take place due to the ongoing impact of the Covid-19 global pandemic.

Earlier in the pandemic, on 13th March, it was announced that the season would be suspended, with a further announcement to follow on 10th June. Having kept a continuous watch over the progression of the pandemic, and the speed at which the nations the league operates within have begun reopening operations, we have reached the conclusion that, unfortunately, it will not be possible for the league to safely hold events before at least September. We have no intention of holding events outside the summer months, which would encroach on the already-squeezed calendars of National Governing Bodies that we operate alongside, and so the decision has been taken not to hold a Quidditch Premier League season in 2020.

The team Facebook groups that have been set up will remain in use, continuing to act as community hubs and forming the basis for other projects we have lined up for the next few months. Players who have been offered a place on those teams will receive a further opportunity to join their groups if they have not yet done so, and there will remain absolutely no fee to participate.

We will be creating roster graphics, which many of the players already in those groups have requested, and we’re also exploring the possibility of players ordering personalised jerseys for their teams and making these available to the public. There’ll be other surprises coming over the next few months, so keep your eyes peeled for ways to stay connected!

Finally, we’d like to say a huge thank you to our managers, volunteers, and everyone who tried out for this season - both for being a part of this community, and for working as hard as you have to keep people safe. While we are incredibly sad not to be able to bring you quidditch events this summer, we know that the sport will come back from these challenging times stronger than ever.
